Description:
The discovery of a Santa Maria snake with two living heads impressed even the oldest residents of a small village in Cuba. The unusual snake measures some 60cm long, and although its heads work independently, the right one is somewhat dominant over the other. This rare snake was found by a villager who saw it in the woods. A specialist explained that the phenomenon could be the result of a developing embryo that began to split into identical parts but stopped half way through, leaving the heads joined. Other double-headed snakes have been found in the US, Spain and Argentina. www.itnsource.com Reuters 246/07
