Description:
The first rhino to be conceived by artificial insemination was born in Budapest Zoo. The white rhino female calf weighed 58 kilograms at birth. The calf's mother, Lulu, was fertilised and after 16-months, the calf was born. The 26-year-old Lulu was monitored continuously throughout her pregnancy. Before the Budapest birth, there were over 20 attempts of artificial insemination on captive rhino cows worldwide.
