Description:
As a part of a Lithuanian diving tradition, a group of divers have installed a Christmas tree underwater. "We have a five year old tradition, to start celebrating the New Year and say good bye to the present
year by installing a Christmas tree underwater, on the bottom of the Plateliai lake. We like to show people that diving is available in winter time, as well," said diver Arunas Vainora.
Despite an air temperature of -9 degrees centigrade, the group gathered together, to make sure the one and a half metre tree was safely installed six metres underwater on the bottom of one of Lithuania's biggest lakes. Fortunately the water temperature was a little warmer, sitting just above zero at three degrees centigrade. The tree is likely to remain for a couple of years, after which it will rot away.
