Description:
The Bavarian Finger Wrestling Championships is viewed in southern Germany as a competitive sport as men gathered in the Austrian city of Erl to compete in the Alpine Championships. Finger wrestling is far from a laughing matter in the region where the event is viewed with a serious sense of honour and prestige. The match begins with the pair of opponents seated on opposite sides of the table, each with their middle finger holding a rubber band. The first to pull his opponent across the table, or tear the band from his opponent's finger, is declared the winner. It can be traced back to the seventeenth century.
